Privacy policy

This website is Ōmokoroa’s community site, run on the yourtown.co.nz platform. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
- When you contact us: your name, email address, phone number if you give it, and your message.
- When you sign in to manage a listing: your email address, the listings you manage, and the changes you make.
- Listings: the contact details a business or group chooses to publish, such as a phone number or a club officer’s name. These are public on purpose.
- How the site is used: we use Google Analytics, which sets cookies, to count visits and see which pages are useful. Our hosting providers also keep short-term technical logs, such as IP addresses, to run and protect the site.
How we use it
To reply to you, to let you manage your listing, to keep the site accurate and secure, and to improve it. We don’t sell personal information or use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that run the site: Supabase (database and file storage, in Sydney, Australia), Vercel (hosting), Google (analytics) and our email provider. Some of these store information outside New Zealand; we choose providers that protect it to a comparable standard. We’ll disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Messages are kept while they’re useful for dealing with your enquiry. Account details are kept while you manage a listing; ask us and we’ll delete your account.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Contact Greig Neilson, who runs Ōmokoroa at greig@omokoroa.net or use the contact form. If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes
We’ll update this page if our practices change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
