We have restructured our club nights this season and will require parent participation to help on the field. We want to make this a fun, enjoyable and affordable after school activity for everyone. We have condensed the time, so all athletes are on the field competing in different areas/age groups in one time frame. This will allow families with small children and older children to enjoy the evening together.
Children’s age groups are determined by the age of the athlete on the 31st December.
Minors are aged 3 – 4 years
Their programme runs from 4.15pm – 5.00pm each Wednesday. This age group will be split into groups according to age & ability. The children will participate in a range of activities from Athletics New Zealand “Get Set Go” programme that will build their fundamental skills and experience in athletics running, jumping and throwing events. The emphasis of the programme will be on fun, participation, and skill development.
Juniors are aged 5 – 6 years
Their programme also runs 4.15pm – 5.00pm. They will be taking part in activities from Athletics New Zealand “Get Set Go” programme during Term 4 to establish the fundamentals of Athletics movement. This programme will then be progressed and moved onto “Run Jump Throw” in Term 1 which introduces the more familiar Athletics Events and competition structure. The emphasis will still be on participation and enjoyment.
Inters and Seniors 7-14 years
Their programme also runs 4.30pm – 6.00pm. The children will participate in a range of activities from Athletics New Zealand “Run Jump Throw” programme that will develop their fundamental skills and experience in athletics running, jumping and throwing events. The emphasis of the programme will be on participation, having fun, being physically active and development of skills/knowledge of event.
Our leaders and participating parents are crucial in the implementation of this programme, so we will involve them in the development as much as we can.
The senior group will follow a more technique focused programme, developing their skills in their preferred disciplines but still with the support of parent (and sometimes external) coaching and guidance, which is perfect for kids new to the sport of athletics.
Club night finishes at 6:00pm for the 7-14yr olds depending on the program, the number of athletes competing and of course the number of parent helpers!
Omokoroa Athletics Club will be using age flashes for 5 – 14 Years to identify paid members & age group. These Age flashes are issued at the start of the season & to new members. These will need to be sewn onto singlets. (3–4year olds will not require an age flash).
Any lost Age flashes will be at an extra cost of $2 each.
