Omokoroa and Pahoia Sea Scouts meet on Thursday evenings in the shed near the barbecue on Omokoroa Domain.
We have 16 fabulous boys and girls, aged from 10-14. The focus of scouts is on being active, teaching skills for cooperation, self reliance, outdoor activities and community involvement.
We work towards bronze, silver and gold scout awards, with lots of special interest badges.
Because we are sea scouts, we also sail and row and we have kayaks to use – though at the moment, no one qualified to take the scouts out in the kayaks. I am aware that the community has a wealth of knowledge within it.
We would welcome interest from anyone that would like to come and share some of their interest and teach the scouts and leaders a new skill. This could be during one or two evening sessions; at the shed or elsewhere; or could be during a weekend for a longer session.
For example, Rick Peers recently joined us and led a session about fire lighting and different ways to build fires. We all really enjoyed it and it was most helpful for the leaders to have his support and enthusiasm.
We work to a plan for each term and will be planning the spring term at the beginning of October.
During that term, we will try to get out on the water whenever tides and weather permit and to be outside as much as possible.
If you have an indoor activity that you would like to share, we would still love to hear from you, as we like to think ahead to the next year and what we may include.
If you would like more information, or want to talk about an idea, then please get in touch with Jane Miller, Group Leader, at rminnovation@hotmail.com
Many thanks. Jane
