You would have witnessed the thunderstorm that went through our district on Friday, while loud and spectacular, did not provide much in the way of the expected rainfall. However it did provide an electrical spike with a lightning strike frying one of our water bore pumps that services the Omokoroa area. Unfortunately WBPDC does not have a spare pump at hand and have had to arrange for a new pump which will not be available until later next week.
While this bore is one of the smaller ones in terms of cubic meters being supplied, it is still important supply when the demand on water is at its greatest. This weekend we have all the factors against us with warm temperatures, long weekend with extra visitors in town.
The WBPDC team are monitoring the water demand against what they can supply and hopefully we can continue without water restrictions being put in place. The team have changed the Water sign as you enter Omokoroa to recognise this fact.
Updates keep be posted if the situation worsens, hopefully the rain that is expected this afternoon may help to dampen the ground down and reduce water usage.
