Ultrafast Fibre update in Omokoroa

December 30, 2017

Posted by WesternBay of Plenty District Council

Omokoroa quick to go Ultrafast

Omokoroa residents aren’t wasting time signing up for ultrafast broadband as the deadline approaches for completion of installation on the peninsula.

To date 479 premises have registered and there is an air of excitement as the first customers look forward to being connected in January 2018.

The work is being carried out by Ultrafast Fibre (UFF), and a company spokesperson says installation remains on target and by mid-2018 all the sites will be tidied up and installation fully completed.

“Installation has gone without a hitch and the local hapu, Pirirakau, has been kept in the loop every step of the way to ensure no archaeological disturbance during the digging.

“We will leave the Peninsula in good condition and will make sure everything looks better than when we arrived.’’

More customers will be connected than originally planned due to the increased residential development and Ultrafast Fibre is expecting to work closely with developers in the Western Bay to ensure development plans can be co-ordinated.

UFB says it is not too late to register. To sign up go online to www.fibreiscoming.co.nz.

Omokoroa is the first community in Western Bay to be included in the North Island’s fibre broadband network. It will be followed by Katikati in 2019 and Te Puke in 2020.

UFB has already rolled out fibre in Hamilton, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Whanganui, Tokoroa, Hawera, Cambridge and Te Awamutu.
