Omokoroa Residents and Ratepayers Association

January 31, 2020

Posted by Bruce McCabe

Development of Omokoroa and surrounding areas over the coming decades requires
effective resident and ratepayer involvement.
A Residents and Ratepayers Association will provide a credible and effective community
voice when dealing with the District and Regional Council and Government Departments.
Public Meeting
A public meeting is to be held at the Omokoroa Boat Club on Wednesday the 12th of
February commencing at 7:30pm to form an Association, to discuss the issues below and to
flag any additional issues that need consideration in the near future.
Guest speaker, Ken Shirley, the recently retired CEO of the Road Transport Forum, will
provide a topical discussion on NZ’s roading issues.
Current Issues

The decision of Council not to underground the power between Western Avenue
and Tralee Street during the upgrade of Omokoroa Road (starting April 2020)
despite there being provision in the Long Term Plan of $700,000 for the
undergrounding.

The intention of Council to sell the existing library site in McDonnell Street when it
should be retained for community purposes.

Feedback to Council on the proposed Stage 3 Structure Plan for the ultimate
development of Omokoroa which will bring the population up to 12,000.

The upcoming review of the speed limits on our local roads.

The unintended costs of Council’s Climate Change response.
