Council has now released the information (including reports and maps) relating to the following natural hazards:
· Flooding – Waihi Beach, Athenree and Bowentown (2017)
· Flooding – Wairoa River (downstream of the Ruahihi Power Station) (2016)
· Tsunami – Maketu, Pukehina and Little Waihi (2017)
· Liquefaction – District-wide (2002)
These natural hazards are not in the District Plan (where people would normally see information about natural hazards). That’s why the Council needed to find other ways to let landowners know about these “other” natural hazards. Council has a legal requirement to make known all information that we hold about natural hazards.
The release of information for these “other” natural hazards is via a new natural hazards webpage including a natural hazards mapping tool – see www.westernbay.govt.nz/naturalhazards
Click on the link, enter your address and the map will show the extent the liquefaction issue, which for most of Omokoroa is “less than minor”.
