Friday at 5:30 pm, a pleasant fellow knocked on our door and that of our neighbour (Ruamoana Place). He had a lanyard around his neck, but it was too dark to see what was written on it. He was giving us advance warning that our street would be ripped up in the next few weeks for installation of fibre. We thanked him and he left, then I realised that fibre was installed in our street last year. The timing was also odd, as I would have thought that a genuine employee would have finished work by that time on a Friday night. 15 minutes later he was still sitting on a bench at the top of Ruamoana. Neighbours had seen him earlier that afternoon, also sitting on a bench on Harbour View Road. Friends of ours have also had someone knocking on their door in Omokoroa, purporting to be from Vodafone and talking about installing fibre, wearing a Vodafone jacket and a lanyard. It may be totally genuine, but I have informed the Police and the Community Patrol, to be on the safe side.
