We have two ways for those of you who support what we are doing up at the Blade with our 100 Ha pest Free Zone, that don’t involve you in coming up there regularly to walk the trap lines and handle dead possums etc.
Helping financially by adopting a trap
We have had the go-ahead to expand our area of total pest control, up the Ngamarama track one km, and south of that track for 1.5 km. a further rectangle bringing our area to around 300 Ha. This area will be facilitated along 1.5 km long trapping lines going south from the Ngamarama track.
We are also permitted to increase mustelid trapping two kms along the Ngamarama track to the north and down the Leyland O’Brien track for two kms to the south. The idea is to create a thin corridor of DOC 200 double trapped stoat boxes. With the range of these pests varying so much, the effect could be a reduction zone for stoats, smaller ferrets and weasels of up to one km.
This expansion fits in with the Pest Free NZ 2050 campaign.
Any bush loving people who would like to be a part of this expanding activity, we have a place for you.
If you would like to assist in eradicating these pests, but are not in a position to physically assist, perhaps you’d like to sponsor one or more bait stations or traps. The requirements for this expansion are far more $$$ than our current fundraising covers:
260 rat traps @ $20 rat traps will be used after initial toxin use to maintain low presence without excess toxin use
260 rat bait stations @ $20
200 possum traps @ $40
10 stoat double traps @ $120
We invite you to adopt a trap or three, I’ll put my money where my mouth is by adopting one of each for $200.
